Who does the lifting, how long it sits in your driveway, and which one actually costs less for your job.
When you have a lot of junk or debris, there are two main ways to get rid of it: hire a junk removal crew, or rent a dumpster and fill it yourself. Both work. The right one depends on your project.
Junk removal: a crew shows up, loads everything from wherever it is in your home or yard, sweeps up and drives away. You pay for the space your items take in the truck plus the labor.
Dumpster rental: a roll-off dumpster is dropped in your driveway for a rental period. You load it yourself. When the rental ends, it is picked up and hauled to the landfill. You pay for the size, the rental period and usually a weight allowance, with fees if you go over.
Dumpster pricing can creep up with overweight fees, extra rental days, permit fees and items the dumpster company will not accept. Junk removal pricing should be all in, with a price you hear before loading starts.
For most household cleanouts and small to mid-size remodels, junk removal is faster and simpler. For a full renovation over several weeks, a dumpster often makes more sense.
